Afghanistan Business Visa in 2026

Afghanistan's current Business Visa is the main visa category for foreign nationals traveling for commercial activity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) publishes a broad validity range and requires evidence tied to a genuine business purpose.

It should not be confused with a business licence, investment approval or permission to take ordinary employment. Those are separate regulatory questions.

Current validity and fee range

The central MFA business-visa page currently publishes:

  • validity: one month to three years; and
  • fee: USD40 to USD300.

Current MFA-controlled mission tables show that longer validity generally corresponds to higher fees and can include multiple-entry permission. For example, current Mumbai mission guidance publishes business options at three months, six months, one year, two years and three years.

The exact fee and entry configuration should be confirmed with the mission that will issue the visa.

Core official evidence

The central MFA page says the business visa is issued on the basis of:

  • a valid business licence;
  • a copy of the applicant's passport; and
  • supporting bank statements.

Mission-level checklists can also require company incorporation or registration documents, a company covering letter, export/import documents where relevant, photographs and an Afghan business invitation or reference.

Use the mission checklist that applies to your place of residence; do not assume a document accepted at one post will be sufficient at every post.

Business visa is not company registration

Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) separately handles business and investment matters. Its current site states that Afghanistan welcomes international investors and provides support for foreign investment and business activity.

A foreign founder, investor or company representative may therefore need to address two parallel tracks:

  1. immigration — the business visa and any later residence/extension; and
  2. commercial compliance — business registration, licensing and tax registration where the activity requires them.

A visa label does not replace those commercial steps.

Is there a separate Afghanistan investor visa?

Current central MFA visa categories do not publish a standalone “investor visa” with a separate investment threshold. Investment-related travelers generally need to identify the appropriate business or entry basis and then satisfy the separate MoIC investment/business requirements.

Because there is no current official central investor-visa product comparable to the dedicated investor routes found in some other countries, ReloTide does not create a separate Afghanistan investor-visa page.

Business visa vs work visa

A business visa should not be used as a substitute for employment authorization. If a foreign national will be hired to work for an Afghan company or institution, the appropriate route is the Afghanistan Work Visa, together with the separate MoLSA work permit.

Business travel can cover activities such as meetings, negotiations, commercial visits or managing legitimate business interests, but ordinary employment creates a labor-authorization requirement.

Continued residence

The MFA's current Residence Visa expressly lists business visa holders among the categories that may continue their stay through the residence-visa framework.

The residence visa is published for one month to one year at USD50 per month. It is a time-limited continuation mechanism, not permanent residence.

Online application and mission filing

The MFA's eConsulate system provides the online visa application form. Current official mission guidance shows that applicants may still need to print the form and submit the original passport and company records in person.

A practical business-visa workflow is:

  1. identify the mission responsible for the application;
  2. complete the MFA/eConsulate form;
  3. prepare passport, photographs and identity documents;
  4. assemble the business licence, company records and bank evidence;
  5. obtain an Afghan invitation/reference if required by the mission or case;
  6. select the appropriate validity and entry option;
  7. pay the official mission fee; and
  8. after arrival, complete any company, tax or residence steps required for the actual activity.

Tax and TIN context

The Ministry of Finance publishes separate tax guidance for businesses, investors and individuals, including Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), wage-withholding and business-receipts materials. Current Ministry of Finance notices also state that foreign nationals can use a passport copy when applying for a TIN under the published process.

Immigration status therefore should not be treated as a tax-registration result.

Common mistakes

  • treating the USD40–300 range as one fixed fee for every applicant;
  • assuming a long-validity business visa automatically permits employment;
  • confusing the visa with business registration or an investment licence;
  • calling the route an “investor visa” when no separate current central product is published;
  • relying on a mission fee table from another jurisdiction without checking the processing post; and
  • overlooking the residence-visa step when a legitimate business stay continues beyond the initial authorization.

Frequently asked questions

How long can an Afghanistan business visa be valid?

The central MFA page currently states one month to three years.

How much does it cost?

The MFA publishes a USD40–300 range. Current mission tables tie the actual amount to the validity and entry option.

Do I need an Afghan company invitation?

The central MFA page focuses on a valid business licence, passport copy and bank statements. Some mission checklists also ask for an Afghan invitation or business reference, so confirm with the post processing the application.

Can I work as an employee on a business visa?

Do not treat a business visa as a work permit. Employment should use the current work-entry visa and the separate MoLSA work-permit process.

Can a business visa lead to residence?

The MFA's current residence-visa category lists business visa holders among the categories eligible to continue their stay for one month to one year, subject to the residence process.
