Argentina Digital Nomad Visa in 2026

Argentina's so-called digital nomad visa is formally a special transitory residence under Article 24(h) of Migration Law 25,871, Decree 616/2010 and DNM Disposition 758/2022. It is designed for eligible foreigners who perform remote services through information, telecommunications or analogous technology for people or legal entities domiciled outside Argentina.

That legal classification matters. It is not the same as Argentina's temporary residence categories, and it is not a general permit to take an ordinary job with an Argentine employer.

Who can apply?

The current Dirección Nacional de Migraciones digital-nomad page limits the procedure to nationals of countries that do not require a tourist visa to enter Argentina. The applicant must be able to demonstrate genuine remote activity for foreign clients, employers or contracting entities.

The government page asks for evidence describing the independent or remote work and permits supporting material such as:

  • employment or service contracts;
  • company records or an endorsement from the foreign organization;
  • proof of demand or requests for services;
  • professional certificates;
  • evidence of fees or income; and
  • at least one occupational reference connected to the work being performed.

The applicant also submits a signed statement with personal data and a description of the activities, plus a short CV showing relevant education and experience.

Is there a minimum income requirement?

As of 16 September 2026, the current official DNM digital-nomad procedure does not publish a universal fixed monthly-income minimum.

Applicants still need evidence that the remote activity is real and economically credible, and DNM can examine the documents submitted. But ReloTide does not convert that evidentiary requirement into an invented dollar figure. If another website quotes a mandatory Argentina digital nomad income threshold, check whether it can point to a current DNM rule.

Documents

The current DNM checklist includes, among other items:

  • valid passport;
  • Argentine criminal-record certificate for applicants over the stated age threshold;
  • proof of domicile in Argentina;
  • evidence of regular entry;
  • the signed application explaining the remote activity;
  • CV; and
  • documentary proof of the remote work and professional background.

Foreign documents can require apostille/legalization and Spanish translation depending on their nature. DNM may request additional evidence when the submitted material does not establish the claimed activity clearly.

Validity and renewal

The digital-nomad transitory residence can be granted for up to 180 days. DNM also publishes a specific extension procedure that can extend the stay for up to another 180 days.

For renewal, DNM asks for evidence including income received during the residence period and a criminal-record certificate from the country of origin, in addition to the applicable identity and status documents.

This structure should not be described as a one-year temporary residence permit. It is a 180-day transitory authorization with a possible extension.

Can an Argentina digital nomad work for local clients?

The program is built around services to people or entities domiciled abroad. In addition, Article 52 of the current Migration Law provides that transitory residents generally may not carry out remunerated or lucrative activities in Argentina unless their subcategory or a specific DNM authorization permits it.

For that reason, a person who plans to take ordinary Argentine employment should compare the migrant worker residence instead. A person moving based on passive income may fit the rentista residence, and an eligible South American national may have a simpler MERCOSUR residence.

Government fee

DNM's current migration fee table lists non-tourist transitory residence at 16 UMSM for MERCOSUR/associated-state applicants and 32 UMSM for extra-MERCOSUR applicants. The same table currently states 1 UMSM = ARS 1,000, so those general transitory-residence amounts correspond to ARS 16,000 and ARS 32,000 at the verified date.

However, the digital-nomad framework also has electronic/consular filing mechanisms that can use different fee units. Applicants should follow the exact amount shown in the filing channel they actually use rather than assuming one generic figure covers every consular or electronic step.

Processing time

The official digital-nomad pages reviewed for this guide do not promise one universal end-to-end processing time. Processing depends on the filing location, completeness of evidence and DNM review. ReloTide therefore does not publish a fabricated guaranteed number of days.

Health insurance after the 2025 reform

Decree 366/2025 amended Argentina's migration rules and added a statutory health-insurance declaration requirement for people entering under migration categories. That does not mean every DNM route page lists an identical insurance upload field, so applicants should distinguish the legal entry requirement from the specific online document checklist.

Tax residence

A 180-day digital-nomad authorization does not automatically answer every Argentine tax question. ARCA's general tax-residence rules are separate from immigration classification. Longer stays, renewals, later temporary residence or other facts can alter the analysis.

Digital nomads with cross-border employment, foreign companies, investment income or clients in multiple countries should obtain tax advice before treating transitory immigration status as a tax exemption.

Does it lead directly to permanent residence?

No automatic direct permanent-residence conversion is published for this transitory route. The 2025 reform also makes clear that residencia precaria does not count toward the arraigo period for permanent residence, and DNM's normal time-based permanent-residence guidance is built around qualifying temporary residence.

A digital nomad who wants to settle permanently should identify a genuine temporary-residence basis rather than assume repeated transitory stays create the same residence history.

Application strategy

Before applying:

  1. confirm that your nationality is tourist-visa-exempt for Argentina;
  2. make sure the paying client/employer/entity is domiciled abroad;
  3. assemble consistent evidence of the remote relationship and actual work;
  4. prepare criminal-record, domicile and entry evidence; and
  5. check the live DNM page immediately before filing for fee and procedural changes.
