Andorra Family Reunification Residence in 2026

Andorra's B.1 family reunification residence allows qualifying relatives to reside with an eligible sponsor in the Principality. The current general government page expressly addresses reunification with an Andorran national or with the holder of a residence and work authorization who resides in Andorra.

The route is a residence authorization. It should not be marketed as automatic unrestricted employment permission for the reunited family member.

Eligible relatives

The official B.1 page lists qualifying relationships including:

  • spouse or member of a registered/stable partnership;
  • minor children of the sponsor and qualifying minor children of the spouse where legal custody applies;
  • dependent adult children under legal guardianship or a similar protective institution;
  • dependent ascendants who are at least 65 years old or retired; and
  • certain other persons under the sponsor's legal guardianship/protection where the specified parental-authority conditions are satisfied.

Each relationship has its own civil-status/custody evidence. A broad claim such as “all parents and adult children qualify” is inaccurate.

Sponsor status

The general B.1 page is written around an Andorran sponsor or a sponsor holding residence and work authorization. Holders of digital-nomad, entrepreneur-program, passive or other specialist statuses should confirm the exact family mechanism applicable to their permit rather than assuming the ordinary B.1 wording extends identically to every category.

Income requirement

The current B.1 checklist uses a household formula tied to the Andorran minimum wage. It requires economic means representing:

  • at least 100% of the Andorran minimum wage for each adult living in the household; and
  • at least 70% of the minimum wage for each minor.

From 1 July 2026, the monthly minimum wage is €1,568.67. At that current figure, 70% is approximately €1,098.07/month per relevant minor. The legal requirement is indexed to the minimum wage and should be recalculated if the wage changes.

The checklist describes evidence such as recent payslips/CASS records for employees or bank-solvency, CASS and sworn income evidence in other cases. It also allows income of a legally resident spouse to be taken into account in the stated circumstances when that spouse expressly agrees.

Accommodation

The family file requires evidence of accommodation and, where the applicant is not the holder of the home, additional domicile evidence. Family size and habitability requirements should be checked against the current application checklist.

Civil-status documents

Depending on the relationship, the file can require:

  • marriage certificate;
  • Andorran stable-union certificate;
  • birth certificates showing parentage;
  • adoption decisions;
  • custody orders;
  • divorce/separation judgments; or
  • guardianship/protection decisions.

The B.1 page uses freshness requirements for several civil-status records. Foreign documents can need legalization/apostille.

Health insurance

The current checklist specifically addresses full health-expense coverage for qualifying ascendants and can require sworn commitments to maintain it. Other insurance/social-security evidence depends on the family member and sponsor situation.

Validity with an Andorran sponsor

Where reunification is with an Andorran national, the official page says the authorization receives the maximum duration of 10 years.

Validity with a residence-and-work sponsor

Where reunification is with a residence-and-work holder, the published pattern is:

  • initial authorization: 1 year;
  • three renewals of 2 years each; and
  • after seven years, generally 10-year successive periods, subject to treaty exceptions.

The family member's status is connected to the qualifying reunification conditions, so household changes should be reported and reviewed under Immigration rules.

Renewal

The B.2 renewal page requires renewal before expiry and asks for continuing evidence such as sponsor CASS information, Comú residence and insurance where relevant.

Changes during the permit period that were not previously reported must be documented at renewal.

Government fee

The immigration fee schedule contains family-related residence lines at €22.61 for the specified family-reunification categories. Confirm the precise tariff line for the sponsor/status combination when filing.

This fee is separate from document legalization, translations, insurance and other private costs.

Does family reunification allow work?

Do not assume automatic work authorization from B.1 residence alone. The official B.1 description says the authorization permits residence. If a family member wants to work, confirm whether a separate or converted work authorization is required for that person's facts.

This caution is especially important when comparing Andorra with countries whose dependent permits automatically grant unrestricted employment.

Processing time

The public B.1 service page does not publish one universal guaranteed end-to-end decision time. Relationship verification, custody/guardianship evidence, legalized documents, household means, accommodation and requests for additional documents can affect processing.

Sponsor changes

Marriage breakdown, death, change of custody, loss/change of the sponsor's immigration status or departure from Andorra can affect family residence. Do not assume a dependant automatically becomes independent after a fixed period unless current law confirms that result for the specific case.

Family under digital-nomad or entrepreneur residence

The D.3 and D.4 pages require principals to demonstrate sufficient means and insurance for dependants, but those specialist routes should be read with the family provisions applicable to their legal category. A D.3 or D.4 applicant should get route-specific confirmation on whether family applies jointly, through dependent residence or through another mechanism.

Family under passive residence

Passive/non-work residence uses its own dependent investment/contribution framework in 2026, including the current €12,000 non-refundable contribution per dependent for new passive-residence cases under government policy. That financial rule should not be confused with the B.1 minimum-wage household formula for ordinary reunification.

See passive residence.

Application sequence

  1. Confirm that the sponsor status supports the intended family mechanism.
  2. Confirm the family relationship falls within the statutory/administrative list.
  3. Calculate the current minimum-wage-linked household means requirement.
  4. Secure qualifying accommodation.
  5. Collect current civil-status, birth, custody or guardianship evidence.
  6. Apostille/legalize foreign public documents where required.

Frequently asked questions

Can a spouse join an Andorran resident?

A spouse/stable partner is among the relationships listed by the B.1 framework, subject to sponsor eligibility and the other requirements.

Can parents qualify?

Dependent ascendants can qualify where the published conditions are met, including the 65-or-retired rule described by the government.

How much income does the sponsor need?

The current B.1 formula uses 100% of the Andorran minimum wage for each adult in the household and 70% for each minor, subject to the official evidence rules.

Can the family member automatically work?

Do not assume so. B.1 expressly authorizes residence; confirm any work authorization separately.

How long is family residence valid?

With an Andorran sponsor, the page states up to 10 years. With a qualifying residence-and-work sponsor, the published pattern begins at 1 year, then three 2-year renewals, then generally 10-year periods after seven years, subject to exceptions.
