Andorra Digital Nomad Visa in 2026
Andorra has an official digital-nomad immigration category. The legal/administrative name is D.3: Residència per a nòmada digital. It authorizes residence for a qualifying newcomer whose work does not require a specific geographical location and who uses telecommunications and technology to perform it.
This matters because the popular phrase Andorra digital nomad visa is not merely a marketing nickname for passive residence or self-employment. D.3 is a distinct residence authorization created under Andorra's digital-economy and entrepreneurship framework.
Core D.3 requirements
The current Government of Andorra D.3 page says an applicant must, among other requirements:
- be a newcomer whose work can be performed without a specific geographic location;
- use telecommunications and technology for that work;
- fit within the applicable regulatory quota;
- establish principal and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 days per calendar year;
- obtain the required favorable determination connected with the economy ministry's assessment of the activity;
- have qualifying accommodation, or have started the process to acquire it under the conditions described by the service;
- demonstrate sufficient economic means under the applicable rules;
- maintain qualifying health/disability insurance, subject to the age-related exceptions described on the official page; and
- complete parish/Comú registration after approval within the stated deadline.
Foreign public documents generally need a Hague apostille or other proper legalization when the official requirements call for it.
Andorra digital nomad income requirement
This is an area where secondary websites can overstate certainty.
The current D.3 service page requires the applicant to show sufficient economic means in accordance with the regulatory requirements, sufficient for the applicant and dependants during the residence period. However, the public D.3 page does not state one universal fixed-euro monthly income number that ReloTide can safely present as the 2026 digital-nomad threshold.
That is different from passive residence, where the current government service material expressly uses a formula based on 300% of the annual minimum wage for the principal plus 100% for each dependent.
Do not import the passive-residence formula into D.3 unless the competent authority confirms that it applies to the applicant's digital-nomad file. A bank balance or salary figure quoted by a private advisor is not a substitute for the current official test.
Economy-ministry qualification
D.3 is not only an Immigration Service filing. Andorra's digital-economy framework uses a qualification step for a foreign natural person whose work does not require a fixed location and uses telecommunications and technology. The government's official qualification form cites Law 42/2022 and Decree 212/2023, which implemented the digital-economy changes to immigration law.
The practical point is that an applicant should be ready to describe the work model clearly: what the person does, why the activity is genuinely location-independent, what technology is used, and how the evidence fits the legal definition.
D.3 validity and renewal
The official D.3 page gives a clear progression:
- initial authorization: 2 years;
- first renewal: 2 years;
- second renewal: 3 years; and
- later renewals: generally 10 years, with exceptions for nationals of states covered by relevant treaties.
These are authorization periods, not a promise that renewal is automatic. The holder must continue to satisfy the applicable legal and administrative conditions.
The 90-day residence rule
D.3 requires principal and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 days in each calendar year. That is significantly lighter than the active-presence pattern used in ordinary work or most self-employed residence, but it is still a real residence obligation.
A person who wants an Andorran address while spending virtually no time in the country should not assume D.3 fits. Keep travel records and evidence of actual residence.
Housing and local registration
The official page asks for evidence that the applicant owns or rents qualifying accommodation, or has begun the acquisition process on the terms described by the government. It also requires registration with the relevant Comú after authorization within the official timeframe.
Accommodation should therefore be planned as part of the application rather than left until after immigration approval.
Insurance
The D.3 page requires insurance coverage valid for Andorra for sickness and disability for the applicant and dependants during the authorization period, with a health-only formulation for minors and people over 60 as described by the government.
Insurance requirements should be matched to the actual official wording; ordinary travel insurance may not necessarily satisfy the residence requirement.
Criminal records and civil-status evidence
Applicants should expect passport/identity evidence, criminal-record documentation where required, and civil-status documents relevant to the household. Foreign official documents can need apostille/legalization. The service also provides forms for declarations, signatures, medical review information and representation/document collection.
Does D.3 permit local Andorran employment?
The D.3 category is designed around location-independent activity, not an ordinary job with an Andorran employer. If the applicant has an indefinite employment contract with an Andorran company and will reside and work locally, compare the A.1 work residence route.
Likewise, a founder actively owning/managing an Andorran operating company should compare J.1 self-employment residence. A person selected for the specific entrepreneur program should compare D.4 startup/entrepreneur residence.
Digital nomad versus international professional residence
These are separate categories.
The international-professional residence sits within the residence-without-work framework and is designed around an Andorran professional base, a maximum of one employee and at least 85% of services used outside Andorra. It also has its own AFA deposit structure.
D.3 instead centers on the location-independent nature of the person's work and the digital-economy qualification framework. Do not select between them solely by which keyword sounds more attractive.
Digital nomad versus passive residence
Passive residence can be relevant to people living from investment, pension or other resources without Andorran employment. In 2026 the financial entry rules for new passive residents became substantially stricter, including a €1 million minimum total investment and specified non-refundable contributions under current government policy.
D.3 is not merely a cheaper passive-residence alternative. It requires a qualifying location-independent professional activity and the corresponding D.3 approval structure.
Quota risk
D.3 is quota-based. Andorra's initial 2023 digital-economy quota allocated places between digital nomads and participants in the entrepreneur program, but an old quota announcement does not establish that a place remains available today.
Before assembling a costly file, confirm current quota availability with the Immigration Service/economy authority.
Catalan language requirements
Andorra has expanded Catalan-language requirements for immigration renewals. The Government's current language-law page states that from 2029 the renewal requirements will also apply to self-employed, frontier, residence-without-work and residence for foreign persons contributing to the digital economy and entrepreneurship.
That future extension should not be presented as though D.3 holders in 2026 already face the same immediate A1/A2 renewal schedule as ordinary work permits. But a person planning long-term residence should factor the 2029 framework into future renewals.
Government fee
The current official D.3 e-tramits page lists a €224.61 price for the D.3 residence procedure. This is the government transaction price shown for the current service; it is separate from document legalization, insurance, housing, professional advice and any other third-party cost.
Do not apply the €3,000 passive residence tariff to D.3 merely because its application form belongs to the residence-without-work family. Recheck the live transaction page at filing in case the tariff changes.
Processing time
The same official D.3 e-tramits page publishes a maximum resolution term of 2 months. That is the authority's stated maximum resolution term for the D.3 procedure, not a promise that the applicant's entire relocation project—from economy-ministry qualification and foreign-document preparation through post-approval registration—will finish within two months.
Private turnaround claims should still be treated as estimates unless they distinguish those prerequisite and post-approval stages from the official D.3 decision term.
Family members
D.3 requires the principal to demonstrate sufficient resources for dependants and insurance for the household where applicable. The exact immigration route used for accompanying or later-joining relatives should be confirmed from the competent authority, because ordinary family reunification is written around defined sponsor categories and should not be generalized beyond its text.
Do not promise automatic employment rights to a dependant merely because the principal has D.3 residence.
Tax and social security
Digital-nomad residence and tax residence are separate legal questions. Andorra's IRPF, social-security rules and tax treaties need their own analysis. Cross-border remote work can also create obligations for a foreign employer or for the worker's business structure.
The immigration permit should not be marketed as a guarantee of a particular effective tax rate.
Application checklist
A careful D.3 project should normally address:
- proof the work is genuinely location-independent and technology-enabled;
- the economy-ministry qualification/resolution;
- current quota availability;
- passport and criminal-record evidence;
- accommodation;
- civil-status documentation where relevant;
- sufficient financial means under the applicable current test;
- qualifying insurance;
- apostille/legalization of foreign public documents where required;
- immigration forms, signatures and medical-review requirements; and
- Comú registration following approval.

At least 90 days per calendar year as principal and effective residence under the D.3 rule.
What is the minimum income for Andorra's digital nomad visa in 2026?
The current public D.3 page requires sufficient economic means but does not publish one universal fixed-euro threshold. Confirm the current regulatory test for your file.
How long is the first D.3 permit valid?
Two years.
Can I renew it?
Yes, subject to continuing eligibility: the published progression is 2 years, then 2 years, then 3 years, and generally 10-year subsequent periods subject to treaty exceptions.
Can I use D.3 to take an Andorran job?
It is not the ordinary route for Andorran employment. Compare A.1 residence and work authorization for an Andorran employment contract.
