Seoul's current family page describes duration as depending on the dependant/principal visa expiration context rather than giving one universal family-visa term. Plan extensions together so the dependant does not outlive the underlying principal authorization.
Work rights
A dependant visa is not an open work permit. Current mission guidance expressly states that FE family members of employment principals and FPI family members of PI investors cannot take paid or unpaid employment. Los Angeles student guidance similarly prohibits work for FS holders.
A dependant who wants to work should obtain advice on changing to or obtaining the appropriate employment authorization rather than beginning work under the family category.
