Aruba Retiree and Rentier Residence in 2026
Aruba has a specific DIMAS temporary residence category for retirees and interest-rate earners (rentiers). It is an independent-means residence route, not a work permit. DIMAS expressly says paid work is not permitted on this residence basis.
Retired with guaranteed income
The DIMAS retiree/rentier page states that the guaranteed-income retiree route applies from age 55. The applicant must have guaranteed pension income or meet the published annuity/interest-income conditions.
DIMAS publishes AWG 50,000 gross per year as the minimum annual yield for the relevant guaranteed annuity test and also uses an AWG 50,000 minimum annual yield for qualifying interest from a deposit/investment fund. The interest route also includes conditions on the deposit period and the country/financial institution.
Retiree or rentier without guaranteed income
DIMAS separately describes a route for an adult who does not rely on guaranteed pension/annuity income. The official page states that the applicant must be able to prove AWG 100,000 per year from assets such as qualifying bank balances/investments, or AWG 100,000 income from qualifying real-estate leases, subject to the listed country/bank conditions.
This is a different test from the age-55 guaranteed-income route.
Permit validity and renewal
For the guaranteed-income route, DIMAS says the permit duration follows the guaranteed-income period but is always issued for one year, and may then be extended in one-year periods if the same requirements continue to be met. The without-guaranteed-income permit is also issued for one year and must be applied for again after that year.
Work prohibition
DIMAS is unambiguous that paid work is not allowed with the retiree/rentier residence permit. A holder who wants to work needs to use the regular work-permit process or another lawful work basis.
Documents
The DIMAS page lists Form B, proof/statement of income, bank statements showing the required annual income and judicial documentation for a first application. Depending on the financial basis, the applicant should also be prepared to prove the nature, duration and source country of the pension, annuity, deposit, investments or rents.
Fees and processing
The public retiree page does not state one universal fee amount on the page itself. Use the current DIMAS payment order/checklist instead of borrowing the fee from another residence category. DIMAS FAQ gives a general legal handling period of 12 weeks, extendable by an additional 12 weeks with notice.
Tax residence
A retiree permit is not a tax-residence ruling. Departamento di Impuesto says fiscal residence turns on the durable personal connection to Aruba, considering home, family, work and similar facts. Long-term retirees should therefore assess Aruba tax residence separately from DIMAS immigration status.
Path to indefinite residence
Renewing a retiree permit does not automatically grant indefinite residence after a short period. The indefinite residence route requires at least 10 years / 120 months of qualifying legal residence and compliance with continuity conditions.
