Anguilla Residence Stamp for Spouses in 2026
The Government of Anguilla's current Immigration service states that a Residence Stamp is issued to persons who are married to an Anguillian/Belonger. It is a family-based local residence permission, distinct from ordinary permanent residence, Residence by Investment, Anguillian status and British nationality.
A spouse should use the Government's actual Residence Stamp application rather than assuming marriage alone changes immigration status automatically.
Who is the route for?
The current Resident Stamps service is explicit: the Residence Stamp is for a person married to an Anguillian/Belonger.
The Government's Residence Stamp form has historically contained fields that help Immigration classify the applicant and relationship, but the live service description should guide 2026 route selection. If your family relationship is not marriage to an Anguillian/Belonger—for example, you are the dependant of a work-permit holder, investor or permanent resident—ask Immigration which current endorsement or status applies rather than forcing the spouse-stamp form to fit.
Documents
The Government currently says the application is completed and submitted to the Immigration Department with supporting documents such as:
- marriage certificate;
- passport;
- birth certificate;
- divorce decree, where relevant; and
- photographs.
Immigration can request additional evidence where necessary to establish identity, lawful status or the genuine legal relationship. Use the current Immigration forms page and obtain the live checklist before submission.
Current Residence Stamp fees
The Government's current Resident Stamps page publishes:
- EC$200 — processing of a first-time application;
- EC$300 — grant of the first Residence Stamp;
- EC$50 — processing of a renewal application; and
- EC$200 — grant of the renewal.
These are the published Immigration fees for the Residence Stamp service. They are not the same as ordinary PPR fees and are not the same as Residence by Investment programme fees.
Renewal
The existence of separate processing and grant fees for renewal confirms that the stamp must be maintained through the current renewal process rather than treated as an indefinite document with no follow-up.
Before the stamp expires, ask Immigration for:
- the current renewal form;
- the earliest filing date;
- any updated marriage, passport or residence evidence required; and
- whether travel is advisable while renewal is pending.
Do not rely on the fee schedule alone as a complete renewal checklist.
Does a Residence Stamp give a work right?
The Government service page does not state that the Residence Stamp itself creates an unrestricted work right. Anguilla separately regulates employment through the Labour Relations Act and Work Permit Regulations.
A spouse who wants paid employment or self-employment should therefore confirm the work-permit position directly with Labour and Immigration before starting work. Family residence and labour authorization should be treated as separate questions unless the competent authority confirms an exemption.
Residence Stamp vs permanent residence
The Residence Stamp is not the same as an ordinary Permit of Permanent Residence.
Ordinary permanent residence is granted under section 25 of the Immigration and Passport Act, and current application material for that route requires proof of 10 years' legal residence. It has its own EC$150 processing charge and permit-fee options.
A spouse should not file an ordinary PPR application merely because both statuses relate to residence. Use the route that matches the legal relationship and current eligibility.
Residence Stamp vs Anguillian/Belonger status
Marriage to an Anguillian/Belonger does not mean the foreign spouse becomes an Anguillian/Belonger on the wedding date.
The Government's Anguillian Status service separately identifies a route based on marriage of five years, alongside parentage and long-residence categories. That later status application has its own statutory requirements, continuous-residence concepts, forms and fees.
The Residence Stamp can therefore be important for lawful family residence while a spouse builds the history needed for a later status application, but it should not be described as “citizenship by marriage.”
Residence Stamp vs nationality
Anguillian/Belonger status, British Overseas Territories citizenship and British citizenship are legally separate concepts.
An Anguilla Residence Stamp does not by itself:
- grant British citizenship;
- grant British Overseas Territories citizenship;
- grant UK permanent residence;
- grant UK work authorization; or
- create UK right of abode.
If nationality is the long-term objective, obtain advice under the nationality rules in force when eligibility arises.
What if the marriage ends?
Family-based immigration can be affected by divorce, separation or the death of the sponsoring spouse. The public Residence Stamp page does not publish a comprehensive rule for every change in circumstances.
Anyone whose marriage ends should contact Immigration promptly rather than assuming the stamp remains unaffected until its printed expiry. A change can also affect later Anguillian-status plans based on marriage.
Children and other relatives
The current service page describes the spouse Residence Stamp and should not be generalized into an all-purpose “family reunification visa.”
Children or other relatives may have different immigration endorsements depending on their nationality, parentage and the principal family member's status. For example, dependants of a permanent resident can be endorsed on the PPR under the Immigration and Passport Act, while the Economic Residence Act has its own dependant definition for investor/HVR families.
Use the family structure of the actual principal route rather than assuming every relative uses the Residence Stamp.
Entry visa while applying
Visa requirements are a separate question. A visa-required spouse may need the appropriate entry visa for travel even if a Residence Stamp application is planned or pending.
The current Anguilla eVisa portal handles entry-visa applications and specifically warns that visa admission does not create work authorization. Keep travel permission, residence permission and work permission distinct.
Processing time
The public Residence Stamp service reviewed for this guide does not publish a universal 2026 processing-time guarantee.
Plan for Immigration to review the marriage and supporting documents. If travel or employment depends on the outcome, avoid committing to a fixed date based on an unofficial processing estimate.
Application strategy
- Download or collect the current Residence Stamp form from Anguilla Immigration.
- Confirm that marriage to an Anguillian/Belonger is the correct basis for the application.
- Prepare the marriage certificate, passport, birth certificate, divorce evidence if relevant and photographs.
- Ask whether any additional evidence of lawful stay, sponsor status or relationship history is needed.
- Pay the EC$200 first-time processing fee according to current instructions.
- After approval, pay the EC$300 grant fee and ensure the stamp/status is correctly recorded.
- Track expiry and renew using the current process; current renewal charges are EC$50 processing plus EC$200 grant.
- Separately confirm work authorization before taking local employment.
- If pursuing Anguillian status after the marriage/residence period, use that separate statutory application when eligible.
Frequently asked questions
Who can get an Anguilla Residence Stamp?
The current Government service says it is issued to persons married to an Anguillian/Belonger.
How much does the first Residence Stamp cost?
The current published charges are EC$200 processing and EC$300 on grant.
What does renewal cost?
The Government currently lists EC$50 to process renewal and EC$200 on grant of the renewal.
Do I automatically become an Anguillian after marriage?
No. Anguillian/Belonger status is a separate process. The Government currently lists a status route based on five years of marriage, subject to the applicable statutory criteria.
Can I work automatically with a Residence Stamp?
Do not assume so. Work authorization is separately regulated. Confirm with Labour/Immigration whether a work permit or exemption applies to your specific status.
Is this permanent residence?
No. The ordinary Permit of Permanent Residence is a different route under the Immigration and Passport Act.
Does the stamp give UK residence rights?
No. It is an Anguilla immigration status and does not by itself grant residence or employment rights in the United Kingdom.
