Anguilla Visa and Residence Options in 2026

Anguilla has several different permissions for people who want to visit, work remotely, take local employment, study, join an Anguillian spouse, or establish longer-term residence. They are not interchangeable. An entry visa is not a work permit; a work permit is not permanent residence; the Residence by Investment programme is legally distinct from ordinary permanent residence; and the High Value Resident / Residence for Tax Purposes programme creates tax residence rather than automatically creating the same immigration status as RBI.

This guide was checked on 16 September 2026 against the Government of Anguilla's current immigration, labour and education materials, the revised Immigration and Passport Act, the Anguilla Economic Residence Act, current Select Anguilla programme pages and recent Executive Council decisions.

Quick comparison of Anguilla immigration routes

| Route | Best fit | Core current rule | Status outcome | |---|---|---|---| | Digital nomad permission | Employee of a non-Anguillian employer or qualifying self-employed remote worker | Statutory permission can be granted for up to 12 months, with an application for a further 12 months | Temporary permission to land, reside and work remotely; not permanent residence | | Work permit | Local employee or self-employed person carrying on work in Anguilla | Vacancies normally advertised first; employee, self-employed, temporary and renewal categories | Work authorization; immigration endorsement/stay must also remain valid | | Permanent residence | Long-term lawful resident using the ordinary PPR route | Current application materials require proof of 10 years' legal residence | Permit of permanent residence, but local work-permit rules can still apply | | Residence by Investment | Investor seeking economic permanent residence | Current programme includes US$150,000 CDF or qualifying US$750,000 real-estate routes, with family adjustments | Permanent residence after programme approval and completion | | Tax residence programme | High-value resident seeking Anguilla tax residence | US$75,000 annual lump-sum tax, US$400,000 property, minimum 45 days/year and other conditions | Annual tax-residence certificate, not automatically RBI permanent residence | | Residence stamp | Person married to an Anguillian/Belonger | Immigration Department spouse route with first-time and renewal fees | Residence stamp; separate from automatic Anguillian status or citizenship | | Student permit | Student at a licensed higher-education institution | Permit can be granted for up to 3 years; paid student work needs a separate Student Work Permit | Study permission with controlled student-work pathway |

Entry visas and visitor status are separate

Anguilla's current eVisa portal offers single-entry and multiple-entry visas for nationalities that require a visa. The portal currently lists a US$140 single-entry visa, a US$250 multiple-entry visa and a US$20 non-refundable application processing fee. The current portal describes a normal processing range of 15–20 business days, while another Government visa information page still displays an older 8–10-business-day statement. Because those official pages are inconsistent, applicants should rely on the live eVisa portal and their application account for the current operational timeline.

A visa is permission to travel for inspection at the border, not permission to take local employment. The eVisa application itself warns that admission under the visa programme does not authorize business or employment without the required permit or pass.

The Immigration and Passport Act also distinguishes a visitor from a person entering for employment with a valid work permit. The ordinary visitor framework can allow a stay and extensions, but it should not be repackaged as a residence or work route.

Anguilla digital nomad permission

Anguilla does have a digital-nomad provision in current revised legislation. Section 24 of the Immigration and Passport Act allows a qualifying person who is employed in a country other than Anguilla to apply for permission to land, reside and work remotely in Anguilla for up to 12 months.

The statute limits the permitted activity to remote work for a non-Anguillian company or qualifying self-employment. A self-employed digital nomad must not offer goods or services to persons in Anguilla under that permission. The statute also allows an application to extend the stay for a further 12 months.

There is an important 2026 operational caveat. In October 2025, Executive Council instructed Immigration and Economic Development to develop a Digital Nomad Policy, even though the statutory route already existed. ReloTide did not find a current 2026 Government page publishing a universal digital-nomad application fee, income threshold or processing promise. The Anguilla digital nomad permit guide therefore separates the legal entitlement from operational details that should be confirmed directly with Immigration before filing.

Work permits for local employment and self-employment

For local work, use the Labour Department framework rather than the digital-nomad rule. The Government's current work-permit procedure says vacancies must be advertised before an application is submitted and lists four categories: self-employed, employee, renewal and temporary.

The application package includes the advertisement, passport and birth certificate, a police record covering the preceding 10 years, certified qualifications, a recent medical report, photographs, employer Social Security good-standing evidence, business licence and tax clearance where applicable.

The Government service page still displays an older EC$100 processing fee, but the later Work Permit Regulations 2023 require a $300 non-refundable application processing fee for every work-permit application, including zero-rated permits. Schedule 1 contains occupation-specific permit fees and additional rules; do not assume one headline permit fee applies to every job.

The Labour (Relations) Act generally allows a work permit for a term the Minister considers necessary, normally no more than one year unless regulations provide a category-specific duration, with a statutory ceiling of two years. See the Anguilla work permit guide.

Ordinary permanent residence after long legal residence

Section 25 of the Immigration and Passport Act authorizes the Governor to grant a non-Anguillian a permit of permanent residence subject to conditions. Current Government application material requires proof of 10 years of legal residence in Anguilla for the ordinary route, reflecting the long-standing Executive Council policy.

The current Immigration service page lists an EC$150 processing fee, then permit-fee options of EC$1,000 annually, EC$2,000 for two years, or EC$2,500 for three years. A valid Inland Revenue Certificate of Good Standing is required before the permit can be granted.

Permanent residence does not automatically remove the need for a work permit. Recent Executive Council permanent-residence decisions continue to state that recipients remain subject to labour and work-permit rules. The permit can include dependants by endorsement, and the Act provides revocation grounds including an absence from Anguilla for a continuous period of more than three years.

See the ordinary permanent residence guide.

Anguilla Residence by Investment

Anguilla's Residence by Investment (RBI) programme is active and is administered through Select Anguilla, a Government agency. It is based on the Anguilla Economic Residence Act and is a different legal pathway from ordinary 10-year permanent-residence applications.

Current Select Anguilla material offers:

  • Capital Development Fund: minimum US$150,000 for a single applicant, plus US$50,000 per dependant;
  • residential real estate: minimum US$750,000 for a family of up to four, plus US$100,000 per additional dependant; and
  • current business-premises or combined business-and-residential options at a US$750,000 minimum for a family of four, marketed as residence-and-work pathways subject to the programme conditions.

Current fees include due diligence of US$7,500 per adult, US$2,500 for children aged 16–17, and US$0 for children 15 and under, plus a processing fee of US$3,000 for a family of up to four and US$500 per additional applicant. Real-estate RBI also carries programme permit fees.

Applications must go through an authorised Select Anguilla agent. Read the Anguilla Residence by Investment guide before treating a normal property purchase as qualifying RBI investment.

High Value Resident / Residence for Tax Purposes

The Anguilla Economic Residence Act separately establishes the Residence for Tax Purposes (RTP) programme, commonly presented by Select Anguilla as the High Value Resident programme.

Current programme requirements include an annual US$75,000 lump-sum worldwide income tax payment, ownership of qualifying property worth at least US$400,000, genuine links to Anguilla, at least 45 days of physical presence in Anguilla each calendar year, and an annual declaration that the applicant spends fewer than 183 days in any other single country and has the centre of vital interests in Anguilla.

The Act requires the annual lump-sum tax commitment for five years and provides for an annual Tax Residence Certificate. A combined RBI + RTP application is possible; the Act waives the separate RTP real-estate requirement for a combined case that fulfills both programmes' other requirements.

Tax residence in Anguilla does not settle tax residence or reporting obligations elsewhere. Recent Executive Council decisions expressly require applicants to be told that Anguilla only confirms compliance with Anguillian tax law. See the Anguilla tax residence programme guide.

Residence stamp for a spouse of an Anguillian or Belonger

The Immigration Department's current Resident Stamps service says the Resident Stamp is issued to persons married to an Anguillian/Belonger. Applicants submit the Immigration form and documents such as the marriage certificate, passport, birth certificate, relevant divorce decree and photographs.

Current published fees are EC$200 to process a first application and EC$300 for grant of the first stamp; renewal processing is EC$50 and grant of renewal is EC$200.

A residence stamp is not the same thing as immediate Anguillian status, British citizenship, UK residence or the UK right of abode. Anguillian/Belonger status has its own statutory rules. See the Anguilla spouse residence stamp guide.

Higher-education student permit

Anguilla has a specific statutory Student Permit for licensed higher education. The Higher Education (Student Permit) Regulations allow the Board to grant a Student Permit for a period not exceeding three years and require consideration of the student's character, health, financial resources, ability to support dependants, health insurance and intention to leave at the end of the course.

The regulations publish a US/EC-dollar-denominated statutory fee of $270 for application processing and $1,345 before an approved Student Permit or Student Work Permit is issued. Because Anguilla commonly uses Eastern Caribbean dollars for domestic statutory fees, applicants should confirm the collection currency and payment method with the Board before paying.

Ordinary employment is not built into the Student Permit. Paid student work connected with the course requires the Dean's approval and a separate Student Work Permit from the Board after consultation with the Labour Commissioner. See the Anguilla student permit guide.

Family members and dependants

Family treatment depends on the principal route:

  • ordinary permanent residence can include dependants by endorsement under the Immigration and Passport Act;
  • Economic Residence applications can include a spouse, children under 18, qualifying full-time students aged 18–25, and fully supported children with qualifying disabilities;
  • the spouse of an Anguillian/Belonger has the Residence Stamp route; and
  • a Student Permit application can include information on dependants, but their entry and schooling arrangements must still meet applicable immigration and education rules.

Do not assume a dependant endorsement grants unrestricted local employment. Where local paid work is intended, confirm the work-permit position separately.

British Overseas Territory status is not UK immigration status

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory, but permission to live in Anguilla is not the same as permission to live or work in the United Kingdom. Likewise, permanent residence, an RBI permit or a residence stamp does not by itself equal British citizenship, British Overseas Territories citizenship or UK right of abode.

Some residence histories can become relevant to later nationality or Anguillian-status applications, but those are separate legal processes with separate eligibility rules. Immigration planning should keep local residence, local work permission, Anguillian/Belonger status and nationality distinct.

Processing-time planning

Published processing information varies by route:

  • eVisa: the live eVisa portal currently states 15–20 business days;
  • RBI and HVR: Select Anguilla markets an approval process of about three months, but complex due diligence or investment completion can take longer;
  • ordinary PPR, work permit, residence stamp and student permit: the current public materials reviewed do not establish one universal statutory decision time that should be promised for every file.

Treat every published timeframe as planning guidance, not a guaranteed completion date. Police certificates, medical evidence, tax clearance, vacancy advertising, due diligence, investment transfer, land formalities and requests for additional documents can add time.

Application strategy

A practical Anguilla relocation plan is usually:

  1. Decide whether your purpose is remote foreign work, local work, study, family residence, ordinary permanent residence, investment permanent residence or tax residence.
  2. Check entry-visa requirements separately; an eVisa does not replace the underlying work/residence permission.
  3. Confirm the competent authority: Immigration, Labour, Higher Education Licensing Board or Select Anguilla.
  4. Use current Government forms and obtain police, medical, civil-status, financial, tax and qualification evidence relevant to the route.
  5. Complete employer advertising, authorized-agent, investment or Dean/institution prerequisites before filing when required.
  6. Keep permission to stay valid while a separate work or residence application is pending.
  7. Recheck current fees and operational procedures immediately before payment.

Frequently asked questions

Does Anguilla have a digital nomad visa in 2026?

Anguilla's current Immigration and Passport Act contains a digital-nomad provision allowing permission to land, reside and work remotely for up to 12 months, with a possible application for a further 12 months. Current operational fees and filing mechanics should be confirmed with Immigration because a complete 2026 digital-nomad procedure was not published on the Government service pages reviewed.

Can I work in Anguilla on an eVisa?

No. The Government eVisa application expressly warns that admission under the visa programme does not authorize business or employment without the requisite permit or pass.

How many years of residence are required for ordinary permanent residence?

The current ordinary PPR application material requires proof of 10 years' legal residence in Anguilla. RBI is a separate economic-residence route and should not be confused with that 10-year pathway.

Does permanent residence automatically give unrestricted work rights?

Not necessarily. Current Executive Council PPR decisions state that permanent residents remain subject to Anguilla's labour and work-permit rules. RBI business-related options can have different programme conditions, so check the exact permit.

What is the minimum Anguilla residence-by-investment amount?

Current Select Anguilla material lists US$150,000 for a single-applicant Capital Development Fund contribution and US$750,000 for the standard approved real-estate route for a family of up to four, with dependant adjustments.

Is Anguilla tax residence the same as permanent residence?

No. The RTP/HVR route results in an annual Tax Residence Certificate. A person can apply for RTP alone or combine it with RBI, but the legal statuses are distinct.

Does Anguilla residence give me UK residence or British citizenship?

No. Anguilla immigration permission is local status in a British Overseas Territory. UK residence, British nationality and Anguillian/Belonger status each follow separate laws and applications.
